Feeding The Lawn
Feeding The Lawn – During late spring and summer, the rapid growth of grass means that frequent mowing is essential. The dangers of allowing the grass to grow too tall have already been pointed out, so the turf must be kept at the recommended height no matter how actively it is growing. On this basis it might seem that feeding the lawn is a foolish thing to do. Isn’t it hard enough to keep the grass down without forcing it to grow more quickly? Is it really worth the extra cost of fertilizer and the need for extra cutting just to make the grass look greener? The simple answer is that the plant foods contained in a compound lawn fertilizer do much more than make the grass look greener.
Organic Lawn Care
Organic Lawn Care – Being able to treat your lawn with the proper care to make it grow healthier, plush-looking and greener requires you to go a little further to get it done. This treatment has become popular because of the eco-friendly green movement, and despite the organic fertilizers acting a bit slow, it still has more benefits to it. Here are a few benefits from organic lawn care:
1. Root growth improvement. Through organic care, nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium are released, and the grass roots absorb them slowly and in small doses. That way, the roots will grow better and stronger.
What Is Weed?
A weed is a plant growing in the wrong place, and in the lawn that means any plant which is not a variety of grass recommended for turf production. It is not unusual to see a newly-sown lawn infested with a wide variety of common weeds.
When the lawn is established, however, the introduction of regular mowing brings about a spectacular change in the weed population. Most types cannot stand up to the destructive action of the whirling blades and so they steadily disappear. Many of the hard-to-kill nuisances of the flower border, such as couch grass, ground elder, bindweed and nettle are unable to exist in the cared-for lawn.
